  • Basketball update
    • HC basketball suffered a painful defeat last week to the blue jays 55-50 Myles Sangers had 12 pts and Jason Chan had 11 pts. This loss broke a 4 game winning streak for MISTERS MANIACS but we know they will spring back.
  • Soccer Team update
    • Congratulations to the soccer team for their 2-0 win last night. The team will head to the quarterfinals as they continue their goal of a state championship.
  • 7th & 8th Grade Soccer Wins NOAL Championship
    • we’re so proud of our 7th and 8th grade soccer team, who won the NOAL Soccer Championship game! Congratulations – your hard work has paid off!
  • Student Spotlight: Brennan Suffern
    • Holy Cross senior Brennan Suffern has received three prestigious military appointments to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, with nominations from U.S. Congressman Cedric Richmond. Brennan is a member of the Holy Cross Student Council, National Honor Society and Quiz Bowl Team. He is also an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at Holy Cross and is a member of the New Orleans Rowing Club. Brennan plans to study political science when he enters college. Congratulations, Brennan!
  • Lacrosse Team update
    • The rugby team defeated St. Paul 24-5 in a preseason scrimmage. Sean O’Brien, Eddie Lemus, and Ben Molbert led the scoring.
  • Heitmeier Named to All-State Team
    • Junior kicker for Tiger football, Nolan Heitmeier, has been named to the Louisiana Sports Line Class 5A All-State Team!
  • Don’t forget Holy Cross Center Stage presents Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand.
    • This tragi-comedy will celebrate the French heritage of New Orleans. There will be love, hate, war, sword fighting and fun! The play will be on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, February 22, 23 & 24 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, February 25 at 2:00 p.m. in the Watson Family Theatre. Seats may be reserved by emailing mbaisier@holycrosstigers.com, or just drop in! Tickets are $12 and include refreshments.
  • Bowling Team Update
    • Congratulations to the Holy Cross Varsity Bowling Team who rolled over Shaw in Monday’s match. The Tigers defeated the Eagles 18 to 9! This victory marks the first Shaw defeat in more than 5 years of Holy Cross Bowling! Bryan Arena’s 246, Captain Gavin Mays’ 247, Carter Holmes’ 177 and Captain Zach Handlin’s 164 were all huge games that really clinched the W!
  • Congratulations to our science fair winners
    • These HC men were chosen to compete at the Greater New Orleans Science & Engineering Fair at Tulane University in February! To see all the names and awards visit the link.

  • Basketball update
    • The fundraiser bake sale was held Friday when John Curtis came to visit the HC Arena.
    • Funder was a great success and thank all for participating
    • SCORE HC Shaw 56 to 36
    • Remember WOOSH week is all next week so get ready for the Wizard of Woosh
    • Soccer Receives #1 Ranking and Celebrates Senior Night
      • Last Monday night the #1 state ranked Holy Cross Varsity soccer team took to the field at Pan American stadium to take on the Country Day Cajuns. The game marked the celebration of this year’s senior class, the biggest senior class to date with seven senior Tigers on the squad.
        • Prior to the game the seven seniors were greeted by their parents at half field and presented to the Holy Cross soccer fan section. This is a very special senior class for Coach Stuart Hayers as this is the core group that he had worked with in the middle school prior to becoming the Director of Soccer.
        • The game ended in a 2-0 victory for the #1 ranked Tigers. Goals were scored by seniors Sebastian Aguilar and Blake Baldassaro, with assists from seniors Alejandro Burgos and Joseph Gerarve.
        • The tigers will be the #1 seed for the Division II playoffs and will find out their opponents very soon. Tigers are guaranteed a first-round bye and a second-round home fixture as a reward for their #1 seeding.
          • The seven seniors are as follows:
            • Sebastain Aguilar – captain #10
            • Blake Baldassaro – captain #22
            • Alejandro Burgos #17
            • Joseph Gerarve #3
            • Jude Heidingsfelder #9
            • Ethan Jones – captain #24

  • Basketball update
    • The tigers beat Jesuit and a packed house on campus 64 58. HC never trailed in the ball game.
    • On alumni night Khalil Thomas score 18 with nine rebounds, Jason Chan had 14, Miles Sanders coming back after 3 weeks with an ankle injury had nine, Sydney Madison eight and Tyler Beaver seven. Aaron Ursin also contributed with for big blocks. Friday HC  travel to Rummel JV start at six varsity is to follow. Worth mentioning the holy cross tailgaters club put the word out for students to come cheer on the Tigers and they did with a great student section.

  • Basketball update
    • The team won 52 to 33 against Shaw Friday night

 Baldassaro and Sequeira Named to All-Metro Cross Country Team

    • Tiger Cross Country Seniors Blake Baldassaro and Adam Sequeira were named to the 2017 All-Metro Cross Country Team by the New Orleans Advocate. Baldassaro finished 14th overall at the LHSAA 5A State Championship meet, with Sequeira finishing 17th.  Both seniors have contributed mightily to the architecture of the Tiger Cross Country Program, and the Holy Cross family celebrates the accomplishments of these talented student athletes.  Go Tigers!

We started right after Christmas last year and have been having nothing but fun putting out a show for you to get your Holy Cross news and information. This show is for January 1st 2018 through December 7th, 2018.

News

  • Basketball update
    • The team won their first game of the Sixth Annual Pensacola Catholic Crusader Classic by beating Saraland of Alabama 53 – 45.
      • Kalil Thomas hit 5 Three Pointers and had 25 points in the game
    • HC lost a back and forth game Thursday night in Pensacola to Pine Forest 72-69
    • Tigers beat West Florida on Friday night 48-30

  • Hello and welcome to a special double addition of Tiger Talk for the weeks of December 18th through December 31st, 2017. We will be taking the Christmas week off to spend time with family, but we wouldn’t let you our audience out, so we are covering everything up to the new year on this show.   • Holy Cross Band performs Christmas concert
    • Our choir students performed their annual Christmas Concert Monday night at Holy Name of Jesus Church.

  • Students Named to New Orleans Honor Band
    • On December 9, 2017, the auditions were held for the honor band for the city of New Orleans and surrounding areas.
    • The following students were selected from Holy Cross:
      • William Kline – flute (alternate)
    • The students that were all-state selections are an automatic choice for district 6 because of their previous choice as an all-state musician are designated with an asterisk before their name.
      • Justin Borne – clarinet
      • Gabriel Rhinehart- bass clarinet
      • Bryson Parker – alto saxophone
      • Justin Schileci – tenor saxophone – selected for the second time as an all state musician.
      • Damion Jarusook – baritone saxophone – selected for the third time as an all state musician.
      • Blake Ziegler – trumpet
      • James Sixkiller – trumpet
      • Joshua Lizama – trumpet
      • Maxwell Arceneaux – French horn
      • Eli Boudreaux – baritone
      • Brandon Dillon – trombone
      • Alex Tedesco – tuba
    • In the junior high school auditions:
      • Nicholas Davillier – trombone.

 

  • HC basketball update
    • Martin’s tournament:
      • Thursday HC beat Northlake Christian 47 18
    • Friday HC beat EJ 46 29
    • Saturday at 245pm will play Lusher for the championship. Will send score after.

  • This week’s player spotlight:
  • Junior Miles Sanders
    • My favorite college and NBA teams are Syracuse and the Golden State Warriors
    • My favorite HC basketball moment was when we all went to Pensacola and played competitive and proved that we can play with anyone.
    • My pregame rituals are prayer, a lot of music and warming up early
    • My favorite teacher is Mr. Collick
