  • Senior gets Acceptance into Pre-Med Scholars Program
  • Congratulations to senior Nicholas Christakis for his acceptance into the Spring Hill College Pre-Medical Scholars Program. The program is for students with exceptional abilities who plan to pursue a career in medicine and gives students the opportunity to gain conditional early acceptance to the SLU School of Medicine. Selection for the highly selective program is competitive and limited to only six entering freshmen each year
  • .Prom 2017: Holy Cross Takes a Swing on the Dance Floor
    • Friday was a busy day for the seniors at Holy Cross. With the annual Alumni Luncheon held at the Sheraton Galleria during the day where the students took the first step in being an official alumnus, the seniors then went home to get ready for their big night – Senior Prom. Holy Cross held its prom in one of the city’s biggest venues–the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. With the dome being lit up in Holy Cross colors of blue and gold, the attendees gathered in the St. Charles Club lounge, sporting their spring best for a night of fun. The night was then capped off at the annual Tiger Fest After-Prom Party, where students participated in games and activities to walk away with prizes that ranged from flat screen TVs, computers, and gift cards to cash, dorm room items and much more. Thank you to everyone who made the night spectacular.
  • Holy Cross’ Soccer Program Has a Bright Future
    • Congratulations to sixth graders Tyler Robichaux, Andrew Garvey and Stephen Treadaway whose travel soccer team, coached by Holy Cross varsity soccer coach Matt Millet, won the Louisiana State Soccer Championship this past weekend. Their team is number one in the state for the second year in a row.

 Fifth Grade Baseball Team Looking Strong

    • Congratulations to the fifth grade baseball team on their 11-4 win over Holy Name last Thursday. The Tigers had great pitching by Matt Handy and Aaron Guichard.  The Tigers were led defensively by great plays by Matt Cacamo and Aaron Gichard.

 Brenden Taravella named Male Athlete of the Week by Nola.Com

    • Congratulations to Holy Cross pitcher Brenden Taravella, who was named Male Athlete of the Week for March 27-April 1 by Nola.Com.
    • In an 8-2 district win over Rummel, Taravella pitched a complete game for his fourth consecutive victory. He struck out eight batters total, one in each of the first six innings, but also allowed at least one hit over that span. He only walked one in the win and went 3-4 from the plate with two RBIs

 Senior Randy Amos Ready for Pre-Med

    • Congratulations to Holy Cross senior Randel Amos for his selection to the pre-medical pathway program between Millsaps College and the William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Randy was one of only ten students out of hundreds of qualified candidates selected to this prestigious program, which guarantees admission to William Carey’s College of Osteopathic Medicine. The programs committee selected students based on their outstanding academic performance and interview. Randy plans to enroll at Millsaps College in the fall where he will pursue a degree in the pre-medicine track.

  • Juniors Dance the Night Away
    • The junior class celebrated their year by attending the annual Junior Prom last week. The prom was held at the Sheraton Galleria in Metairie. With students dressed in their finest tuxedos, and dates in beautiful formal gowns, the dance floor was packed the entire night. Thank you to everyone who was in attendance.   • Senior Baseball Players Honor Teachers
    • The senior baseball players honored the faculty and staff by dedicating their game day jerseys to an individual they feel has helped make them the Holy Cross Men that they have become.
      • Michael Toscano selected Mr. David Lindsey;
      • Cole Nalesnick chose Mr. Shawn Collick;
      • Cody McNeil honored Mr. David Lindsey;
      • Ian Buras picked Mr. Brent Simon;
      • Ethan Michler selected Mr. Dale Turner;
      • Austin Bush honored Mr. Lou Carboni
      • Brenden Taravella chose Dr. Matt Wegmann.
  • Roshan Sadhwani Wins State Championship in Debate
    • Holy Cross Senior Roshan Sadhwani won the Louisiana High School Speech League State Championship in Lincoln Douglas Debating. Sophomore Blake Ziegler finished third in the same event. In Public Forum Debating, Seniors Daryl Naquin and Jeffrey Swift lost a close debate in the Final Round to finish second, while the team of Junior Ernest Colbert and Sophomore Austin Wyman placed third.  Senior Leland Ensminger was 4th in Dramatic Interpretation while in Extemporaneous Speaking Senior Sean Doody was fourth and Blake Ziegler was sixth.  In Congressional Debate, Senior Dominic Lincoln was 5th and Roshan Sadhwani was sixth.

 DiGange Receives Award from University of Holy Cross

  • Congratulations to Holy Cross School Headmaster Mr. Charlie DiGange, who received the Cor Et Mentem Award (Heart and Mind) from the University of Holy Cross. This award honors individuals who embody Respect for all People, Quality Education, Inclusive Community, Concern for the Poor and Social Justice, and Faith in the Presence of God.

First Ever Mother and Son Date Night a Huge Success

  • Last Friday night, Holy Cross School held its first ever Mother and Son Date Night at the Pontchartrain Center. With almost 400 people in attendance, the night started off with a wonderful sit-down three-course dinner in the grand ballroom allowing the moms to spend some quality time with their sons. Soon thereafter, the night continued with moms and sons hitting the dance floor.  There were lots of smiles and laughs throughout the night.
  •  Colton McClintock Receives Appointment to Merchant Marine Academy
    • Congratulations to the second Holy Cross Senior this year, who has recently received an appointment to the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York. Colton plans to play Lacrosse for the Academy and major in Marine Engineering. He says his greatest influence has been the teachers and coaches at Holy Cross who inspired him to want to serve others.
  • Seniors Participate in Signing Day
      • Three Holy Cross seniors participated in a signing day ceremony this week to announce where they will be attending college and playing football next year. Congratulations to Randy Amos (Millsaps College), Albion Ford (Grambling State University), and Mason Boudreaux (Millsaps College) for their accomplishments!

 

    • The Holy Cross National Junior Honor Society is hosting “Tiger Pride Month”
      • During the months of April  Tiger Pride will focus on spreading compassion and kindness to classmates, teachers and the community.
      • National Junior Honor Society members are also selling t-shirts, wrist bracelets and awareness pins as a fundraiser for Holy Cross students who need our help and support in time of medical need.

 Students Collect Beads for St. Michael Special School

  • Members of the Brother Andre Service Society and the Brother Fisher Leadership Council at Holy Cross School recently sponsored a collection drive for Mardi Gras beads to donate to St. Michael Special School. We would like to thank all of our parents who helped us to spread the word and were so very generous with their donations.
  • Tigers Baseball Downs the Blue Jays
    • The Tigers took on rival Jesuit on Friday the 24th at Holy Cross Park. The team took home the victory by a score of 7 to 1 with an outstanding performance. Congratulations to the team and the coaches.

 Chorus Receives High Ratings at Heritage Festival

  • Holy Cross Men’s Chorus and Honors Vocal Ensemble both received Gold ratings for their performances at the Heritage Festival in Atlanta.
    • Senior Edward Falshaw received the Maestro Award for a standout solo performance within a choral performance.
    • Additionally, the Holy Cross Men’s Chorus has been invited to perform next year at a Heritage Festival of Gold, an invitation-only event that takes place at famous venues throughout the country.
  • Poet and Loyola Professor Mark Yakich Visits Poetry Club
    • The Holy Cross poetry club had a visit from published poet and Loyola New Orleans professor Mark Yakich. Yakich led the poetry club through a discussion of memory and resonant detail in poetry, helping the students be more observant of the detail in their own memories.
    • Four More HC Debaters Earn Spots on Team Louisiana
      • The Louisiana District Committee of the National Speech and Debate Association has chosen four Holy Cross Debaters to represent Louisiana at the National Speech and Debate Association National Championship Tournament in World Schools Debating this June.

      • The varsity basketball awards were handed out on Thursday, March 23.
      • Best defensive player went to senior, Andrew Nora

      • The prestigious coaches award went to seniors, Al Ford and Kenyator King
  • Holy Cross Displays St. Joseph’s Altar
    • Holy Cross School honored its patron saint with a beautiful St. Joseph’s Altar. Students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade had the opportunity to visit the altar and learn more about the history of Italy and St. Joseph.
    • Many thanks to all who contributed their time, talent and treasure
  • Robotics Team Heads to VEX Robotics World Championship
    • On March 4, the Robotigers won the Louisiana State VEX Robotics Competition and will be traveling to Louisville, KY in April to represent Holy Cross and the state of Louisiana at this year’s VEX Robotics World Championship.
    • Students participating in the competition are: Shane Welch, Rylan Laird, Leo Bach, Sam Meister, Nickolas Pobocik and Josh Plauche
    • Congratulations to our Robotics team and their coach, Dale Turner. We are proud of you
  • Powerlifting Team Shines at State Meet
    • Congratulations to the Holy Cross Powerlifting Team as they finished fifth in the LHSAA 5A State Championships this past weekend. The Team earned its first individual state champion since 2006 when Hunter McCraine captured gold in the 220Lb weight class.
      • Other Medal winners:
        • Kobi Woodruff – 3rd in the 114Lb weight class
        • David Sanchez – 2nd in the 123Lb weight class
        • Ahmad Coleman – 2nd in the 132Lb weight class

Students Qualify for State Literary Rally

  • Congratulations to all of our Holy Cross students who participated in the South Central District Literary Rally held last month at Nicholls State University. This year, 15 of our students placed in the top three in Division 2 at District Rally and will compete at State Rally on April 1.
  • In addition, District Rally offered Holy Cross the opportunity to send students to compete in Art Rally and Drama Rally.
  • Holy Cross’s Drama Rally performers earned First Place at District Drama Rally and will represent Holy Cross at State Rally in April.
  • Middle School Track Starts off Strong at St. Martin’s
    • The Middle School Track and Field team opened their season on Saturday, March 18, at St. Martin’s Episcopal School. Competing against schools from around the metro area, the team of fifth through eighth grade athletes posted some impressive marks, which bodes well for future meets. The whole team is looking forward to the NOAL championship on April 29. Go Tigers!.

 

  • Beach Volleyball Starts off Season Against Brother Martin
    • The Holy Cross beach volleyball team played in its first game of the spring season on Wednesday against Brother Martin. The doubles and the quads team each won a match and dropped a match against experienced Crusader teams. Check out the website for pictures of the games. Go tigers!

  • Senior Matthew Hedrick Achieves Eagle Scout Rank
    • Congratulations to Holy Cross senior Matthew Hedrick, who achieved the rank of Eagle Scout through Boy Scouts of America.
  • Holy Cross Competes in Rock-n-Chaw Track Relay
    • Congratulations to the Holy Cross track team for finishing up in second place in this year’s Rock-n-Chaw Relay. Go to HCs main website under news and see the results.
  • Debaters Qualify for National Tournament
    • For the fifth consecutive year, Holy Cross School debaters have qualified for the National Speech and Debate Association National Championship Tournament to be held in Birmingham, AL, June 18-23, 2017.  Alex DePriest will represent Louisiana in Congressional Debating, while Leland Ensminger will compete in Dramatic Interpretation.  The team of Daryl Naquin and Jeffrey Swift will be one of Team Louisiana’s entries in Public Forum Debate and Roshan Sadhwani will compete in Lincoln Douglas Debate. Sadhwani has earned the rare honor of competing at the national tournament each of his four years in high school.
  • Holy Cross Students Take Home Honors at Louisiana Social Studies Fair
    • Three Holy Cross School seventh graders–Henry Herbert, Vincent Bourgeois and Will Dwelle–participated in the Louisiana State Social Studies Fair in Lake Charles on March 3. Holy Cross is very proud of these three young men and their accomplishments. For details on their individual projects visit holycrosstigers.com and look under news.
  • Eighth Grade Baseball Starting off Strong
    • Congratulations to the Holy Cross eighth grade baseball team on their 8-2 win over Archbishop Rummel. he team is continuing to impress everyone with their strong showings on the field, including an 8-4 win over Rummel last week. The team also hosted an eighth grade tournament in early March and finished the weekend 5-0, beating Brother Martin 4-3, Rummel 11-2, Jesuit 6-5, Northshore 10-2, and Houma Christian 7-6. The future of Holy Cross baseball is bright!
  • Senior Matthew Hedrick Achieves Eagle Scout Rank
    • Congratulations to Holy Cross senior Matthew Hedrick, who achieved the rank of Eagle Scout through Boy Scouts of America.
  • Celtics Take Home the TCAC Basketball Championship
    • Congratulations to the Celtics for winning the TCAC basketball championship after defeating the Clippers 51-32. Noah Watson and Garrett Cantrelle led the way scoring 18 points apiece. Thank you to all of the players for a great and successful season.
  • Student’s Italian-themed Social Studies Project Receives Recognition
    • Congratulations to Holy Cross seventh grader Renzo Cantin on the recognition he is receiving from his social studies fair project titled Influence of Italian Immigrants in Louisiana. Along with his research, Renzo recreated a miniature St. Joseph’s Day altar that has impressed many.
  • Bowling Team Finishes Regular Season as District Runners-Up
    • The Holy Cross Bowling Team finished the regular season as District runners-up with an impressive 9-3 record totaling in 36,882 pins.
    • The Tigers will continue their season in the Regional Playoffs this Monday, March 20 at All-Star Lanes in Kenner. A victory here will advance them to Baton Rouge on March 28 as they continue the fight for the State Title. Monday’s matches will be live-streamed on Sportsnola.com beginning at 1 p.m.

    • Congratulations to the Holy Cross Speech and Debate team for taking home the City Championship for the fourth year in a row this past weekend at De La Salle. The team won first place in both the debate events and first in the speech events.
  • Seniors Reflect on Faith, Family and Future During Retreat
    • The senior class had an opportunity to reflect on their faith, family, and future at the annual overnight retreat held at Camp Abbey. The retreat is always a moving and memorable experience for the senior class, and our students grew closer in their relationships with God and with one another.

    • The HC band looked amazing as they Marched in Fridays Nemesis and Saturdays Thoth Parades in New Orleans. Take a look at the website for pictures of them on St. Charles Ave. and here’s a sound bite of them getting the crowd into it.

 Students Take Home Awards in Science and Engineering Fair

  • Congratulations to our students who placed in the Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair that was held last week at the University of New Orleans.

 Cheerleading Tryouts Scheduled for March 13-14

  • Tryouts for the Holy Cross Cheerleading Team will take place March 13-14, 2017, from 4-7 p.m. at the Holy Cross Student Center. Girls attending all-girls Catholic high schools are eligible and must register online to participate in tryouts.

  • Cole Clement Receives Appointment to United States Merchant Marine Academy
    • Congratulations to Holy Cross senior Cole Clement for his recent Appointment to the United States Merchant Marine Academy, located in Kings Point, New York. He received his nomination from Congressman Cedric Richmond,. Only four seats are available for Louisiana’s Congressional distribution to the Academy, and Cole has earned the privilege of this prestigious appointment.
  • Senior Ford Luscy Named National Merit Finalist
    • Holy Cross senior Ford Luscy, who has been named a National Merit Finalist by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Ford is captain of the Holy Cross Swim Team and is also a member of the varsity Soccer Team. He is a Peer Minister and enjoys mentoring his younger Holy Cross brothers through retreats and peer ministry activities.

      • Congratulations to the varsity soccer team for a great season. Even though they lost to Alexandria 3-2 we are very proud of the season successes they were able to accomplish.
    • Ethan Jones Named New Orleans Advocate’s Prep Soccer Player of the Week
      • Jones had a pair of assists in the Tigers’ second-round playoff victory over Riverdale. “He’s a junior and a leader on our team,” coach Matt Millet said. “He’s started and played in almost every minute of every game. He leads us in assists and takes all our set pieces to get the ball into the middle.”
    • Holy Cross Basketball
      • The JV basketball teams just beat Rummel on Tuesday the 14th 45-37.
      • Varsity wouldn’t be shown up and won their game against the Raiders 74 – 64

      • Holy Cross Alumnus James Tabary Named MVP at McNeese
        • First year quarterback James Tabary was named MVP of McNeese State University football at Monday night’s banquet to honor the 2016 Cowboys.  Tabary also received the Tough as a Boot Award
          • Tornado Relief Collection Drive to Benefit Holy Cross Families
            • Holy Cross School held a collection drive on Friday, Feb. 17, during homeroom to assist those affected by last week’s tornado. Donations collected went to current Holy Cross families in need, and then to the greater New Orleans community. Together as one Holy Cross family, we make a difference! Thank you for your contributions.
      • Holy Cross Center Stage Damn Yankees Musical
          • Holy Cross Center Stage presented the musical Damn Yankees this past weekend in the Watson Family Theater. Under the direction of theater director Maria Baisier, It was a great performance.
